The Servant of God Devasagayam Pillai (Kottar Diocese) Declared Martyr (Beatified)

Our Bishop

     Bishop Remigius was installed as the fifth bishop of his native diocese, Kottar on August 24, 2007, following the death of Bishop Leon on January 17, 2007. Bishop Remigius had served as Bishop of Kumbakonam for 17 years prior to assuming charge as Bishop of Kottar. Born on May 20, 1939, he was ordained a Priest on April 18, 1966, and served as Associate and Parish Priests and the Executive Director of Kottar Social Service Society prior to becoming the Deputy and later the Executive Director of Caritas India, the Social Service wing of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India. Incidentally Caritas India is one of the largest non governmental organizations in India. He was nominated to See of Kumbakonam and his Episcopal ordination was on January 3, 1990. Bishop Remigius continues to serve Caritas India as its Chairman and serves also as Director of Prison Ministry in India.
