Parishes
From 25 parishes, 32 priests and 95000 Catholics at the time of its formation in 1930, the Diocese of Kottar, today, after 80 years, marches on with 500000 Catholics in 162 full fledged parishes( 161 + 1 quasi parish, the Shrine of St. Antony at Vettuvenny, Marthandam)and in 192 sub stations. Of the four vicariates in the diocese, Kottar and Colachel account for 49 and 27 parishes respectively. The other two vicariates Mulagumudu and Thiruthuapuram have 36 and 39 parishes respectively. Each parish has a resident priest and some parishes have also co-pastors. All the parishes, sparing a few, have pastoral councils and finance committes serving to achieve the goal of integral development of the people and in this process they involve the cooperation of the people.
